Epic is giving small teams four days to build games with AI agents
The 2026 Epic AI MegaJam invites developers to build playable Unreal Engine and Fortnite experiences, with unlimited AI agents and continuation grants of up to $50,000.
Reporting updated Oct 23, 2026
THE TAKEAWAY
Five people. As many AI agents as they want. Four days to make something playable. That's the premise behind Epic Games' newly announced AI MegaJam, running November 12–15. Developers can use AI for coding, artwork, audio or other parts of production, but the finished entry still needs to work as a game.
WHAT HAPPENED
Epic announced the competition on October 22, opening registration for individuals and teams of up to five people.
Participants will build in Unreal Engine or Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN). They can bring their preferred AI tools, including coding agents connected to the editor through Model Context Protocol (MCP).
Teams can participate online from anywhere, while an in-person gathering in San Francisco will bring developers together November 14–15.
Epic is offering $65,000 in category cash prizes, along with development continuation grants that can reach $50,000 for standout projects.
WHY IT MATTERS
Four days is barely enough time to create a polished vertical slice, let alone a complete game.
That makes the results interesting.
Will AI agents let developers build more ambitious mechanics? Can tiny teams create richer environments while retaining a consistent visual style? Or will the strongest entries come from creators who keep their ideas focused and use AI for specific production tasks?
Epic's official rules make another distinction: despite the event's name, entrants are not required to use AI.
The games themselves will matter more than the number of tools used to build them.
FOUR THINGS WORTH WATCHING
Unlimited AI agents
Teams can experiment with agent-assisted programming, asset creation and production workflows.
Playable games
Entrants must submit working builds or eligible UEFN versions, not just concept art or promotional videos.
Glass Box
A $2,500 prize recognizes the best development log explaining how a team built its game.
Continuation grants
Exceptional entries may receive funding to keep developing after the four-day competition.
VEYR ANGLE
The most interesting stories may arrive after the competition starts.
VEYR will be watching for standout playable games, inventive AI-assisted workflows and development logs that show exactly where creators used their tools.
A compelling four-day prototype could become something much bigger.
