Inspired by years of playing RuneScape, creator Danial is building a browser adventure full of fishing villages, silat lessons and places connected to his family.
Visit GamePendekar is an old-school role-playing adventure with a distinctly Malaysian identity. Its creator says Claude and Codex have helped build the game, which already has three playable chapters, ten skills and shared multiplayer areas.
Danial grew up playing RuneScape. Now he is creating his own version of that kind of adventure, but with the geography and everyday life of Malaysia's east coast.
Players begin on the Perhentian Islands, learning silat from an old teacher, fishing with a traditional net and gathering the timber needed to build a perahu. Eventually, they sail to Kuala Besut and travel farther down the coast, where new towns, trades and raiders await.
The details give this little world its charm. You can cook your catch, train with a bamboo bow, mine ore, smith tools and share parts of the world with other players.
Pendekar is more interesting than a quick AI-generated game demo because the world has a point of view. Its appeal comes from the places Danial knows and the ordinary activities he has turned into gameplay.
Danial has family ties to Terengganu, and the game's places, food and people reflect that connection.
Ten skills, quests, persistent progression, crafting and shared multiplayer areas are available in the browser beta.
Danial says he used Claude and Codex to help build the project. The exact division of programming, design and asset work has not been independently documented.
You start by learning how to fish and fight. Before long, you have a boat, a destination and a world that feels like somebody's home.
This is the kind of creator work worth watching: personal, playable and growing in public. AI may have helped Danial build faster, but his memories and cultural influences are what make Pendekar different from another fantasy RPG.
