Independent developer freesoulapps is experimenting with something more ambitious than generating individual 3D models: building a functioning science-fiction RPG where players can explore, meet characters and complete quests.
What Happened
Creating a character is one challenge. Making that character belong in a playable world is another. In an isometric sci-fi action RPG prototype, freesoulapps is using several AI tools to bring those pieces together. Meshy v7 helps transform character references into 3D models. GPT-6 Astra assists with the outpost environment, player movement, interaction systems, voiced NPC dialogue and quest tracking. The creator also reports using Claude for supporting development tasks. The result is an early Unreal Engine 5.8 prototype designed to test whether those different pieces can function together. It's still a work in progress, but the ambition goes beyond showing a generated character standing in an environment.
Why It Matters
For an individual game developer, connecting systems is often harder than building an impressive first environment. A small playable quest can reveal whether the characters, world and mechanics actually make sense together.
VEYR Angle
What makes this project interesting is the attempt to assemble a complete gameplay loop with AI assistance. That is an important distinction for VEYR's Games coverage. The goal isn't merely to create a beautiful world. It's to build one players have a reason to explore.
