One developer is building a 3D farming game with Claude as his programming partner
An indie creator is using Claude Code and Unreal Engine to turn a 2D prototype into a working 3D farming and colony simulation.
Reporting updated Oct 13, 2026
An independent developer is building a farming game where Claude writes code, runs tests and inspects screenshots, while the creator directs the gameplay and visual design.
WHAT HAPPENED
Developer u/Dead_Fox_7 is creating a farming and colony simulation inspired by RimWorld and Farming Simulator. Players can grow crops, raise animals, mine, fish, trade and build settlements across a stylized 3D landscape.
The project started as a 2D Python prototype before moving to Unreal Engine 5.8. Claude Code is helping the developer rebuild the game, one system at a time.
WHY IT MATTERS
What's interesting isn't just the 3D world. It's how much of the development process one creator can now manage with an AI programming partner.
The developer still designs the mechanics, evaluates the results and makes creative decisions. Claude handles much of the implementation and testing, helping turn ideas into working systems.
The game remains in development, with no public playable build yet. But the creator's progress offers a fascinating look at how small teams may build increasingly ambitious 3D games.
VEYR ANGLE
The cows grazing in the fields are charming. The bigger story is the production process behind them: one developer directing a growing 3D game while Claude helps build, test and refine the systems that make it playable.
HOW HE'S BUILDING IT
Coding
Claude writes C++ gameplay systems based on the creator's design instructions.
Testing
The developer reports 680 automated tests across 20 development milestones.
Visuals
Claude captures and inspects game screenshots, while AI-assisted Blender workflows help produce assets and animation.
Gameplay
Farming, mining, fishing, construction and trading are already taking shape.
